Domain and Hosting

Your Domain and Your Hosting, in One Place.

No second account and no records to copy between companies. Buy the name, upload your website, and we join the two.

Start with the name
Type a name to see what is free. Upload your website before or after, in either order.
Tell us what the site is, in a word or a sentence, and we suggest names, then check which ones are still available.

How the Two Fit Together

  • They are two separate purchases

The domain is a yearly payment. Hosting with your own domain is a paid plan, from Starter. There is no free domain year hiding a higher renewal, so you can see both prices up front.

  • Upload files, get a website

Drop in HTML files, a ZIP or a single PDF. There is no server to set up, and no build step: what you upload is what is served.

  • Good for static websites

Portfolios, landing pages, documentation and AI-built websites all fit. It is not for WordPress or anything needing PHP or a database.

Three Ways to Set This Up

Most people end up in one of three setups. The table shows what each one asks of you, and where each one is the better choice. A bundled host suits you if you want WordPress. Separate accounts suit you if you have many names and want the lowest price on each. We are built for the third case: a static website and one name, with nothing to wire up.

Name and host apart Bundled web host Static.app
Accounts Two One One
DNS setup You copy records across Usually done for you Done for you
SSL certificate Set up at the host Usually included Issued when you pick the website
Name price Often lowest Free first year is common, then renewal Higher than a name-only registrar, shown before you pay
Good for Many domains, technical owners WordPress and PHP websites Static websites and AI-built pages
Not for People who want no setup Very simple static websites WordPress, PHP or databases

A Good Fit For

  • Portfolios, landing pages, documentation and link pages. These are made of plain files that rarely need a server, so they fit static hosting well and there is very little to maintain.
  • Websites made with an AI builder and exported as files. Download the result, upload it here and pick your name, without having to learn what a DNS record is along the way.
  • One-person businesses who do not want to manage DNS. With the name and the website in one account there is one place to look, and no second company to contact when something needs changing.

Not the Best Fit For

  • WordPress or anything needing PHP or a database. We only serve static files, so those websites will not run here, and you would be better off with a host built for them.
  • Finding the lowest possible price on the name alone. A registrar that only sells names will usually be cheaper. You would pay less for the name, then do the connecting yourself.

What Comes With It

The usual setup is a name from one company and hosting from another, with you in the middle. Here the two already know each other.

  • The connecting is done for you

We write the DNS records and join the name to your website ourselves. Nothing to look up and nothing to copy between accounts.

  • The padlock comes with it

The SSL certificate is issued when you pick the website, then renewed for as long as you use the name. It is not an extra.

  • Email on your name

Add hello@ or info@ on the name, and mail sent there lands in the inbox you already read. The forwarding and MX records are set up here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a domain included with hosting?

No. Some hosts include a free first year and make it back at renewal. Here the name is priced on its own, and you see next year's price before you pay.

Can I buy a domain and hosting together?

Yes, in the same account, one after the other. Buy the name, upload your website, then pick which website the name should open. The DNS records and SSL certificate are handled for you.

Can I host WordPress here?

No. We host static websites made of files like HTML, CSS, JavaScript and images, with no PHP or database. If you need WordPress, you need a host built for it.

Can I use a domain I already own?

Yes. You can transfer it here, or keep it where it is and add the DNS records to connect it yourself.

Can I try the hosting first?

Yes. A free website on a Static.app subdomain costs nothing, and you can add your own name when you are ready.
